When was Beacon Foundation founded?
Beacon Foundation was founded as a non-profit organization in April of 2000 by volunteer flight attendants at Northwest Airlines. With the NWA/Delta Merger, Beacon Foundation expanded its reach to include all U.S. based flight attendants at Delta Air Lines.
Who governs the foundation?
The foundation's board of directors is made up of Delta Air Lines flight attendants who volunteer their time to govern the foundation. The board establishes the foundation's financial goals and operating policies. Each base has a committee also made up of Delta Air Lines flight attendants. The base committee reviews applications, recommends grant awards and conducts local fundraising activities voluntarily. Requests for assistance are approved based on the foundation's policies, IRS guidelines, and recommendations from the local committees.
Who provides the funds for assistance?
Beacon Foundation receives the majority of its financial support through payroll deduction from Delta flight attendants. It is our goal to have every dollar donated through payroll deduction given back to Delta flight attendants who qualify for financial assistance. Additional funds are received through fundraising and one-time donations.
Is my donation to Beacon Foundation tax-deductible?
Yes! Beacon Foundation is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit corporation. Therefore, all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
